It is also used to formulate lacquers, paints and urethane polyester polyols. This chemical is basically anhydride version of phthalic acid. It acts as multipurpose intermediate in organic chemical reactions for its easy availability in the market. Phthalic Anhydride is produced as a result of catalytic oxidation of naphthalene. It slightly dissolves in water, has standard vapor pressure and specific unpleasant smell.
